So it has finally dawned on her that there is no way in hell that she can win this election. According to AP, Hillary will officially "suspend" her campaign this Saturday. Now she wants the obama campaign to pick up 30 Million dollars worth of her debt as well as secure the #2 spot in the white house for her.
Not so fast. No matter what the Clinton News Network (CNN) says, Obama does not need this power hungry liability on his ticket. She is not as likable as the network news wants you to think. Infact. She carries anti hillary, republican and independent vote along with pro hillary vote. She is a huge liability to Barak. And then, there is also an issue of Clinton finances. You see, Bill's financial situation is extremely complex. He has money flowing in from the dictators and publishers from all over the globe. (Such us the president of Uzbekistan, for whom Slick Willie managed to set up a uranium sales deal.) That's right boys and girls, Clintons are the farthest thing from squeky clean. And I am not even going to mention the lobbysit influence on the Clinton campaign. I think she managed to bend over for every special interest out there, at least according to the center for responsible politics. The juicy stuff starts when you get into smaller contributions put forth by less prominet groups, sources of funding for which point to isnurance companies, drug companies, tobacco industry and all the other special groups out there who promote their industry's agenda. Heck, accepting 300G's from a pro abortion group (Emily's list) is pretty bad if you are trying to appeal to independents who will decide this election.
That's right, the ever illusive Independents. That's who will elect the president in 2008. David Plouffee (Obama's campaign director) knows it, and they are very careful to try to stay in a relative middle to what the opinion polls show that people desire.
So as more and more Democrats figure out just how much of a liability the Clintons will be in November, more of them begin to shy away from just giving away the Vice presidential spot to Hillary Clinton.
Personally I think he needs to bend over backwards and convince Mike Bloomberg to join the ticket. Think of a powerhouse that would create. A financial maestro with huge appeal from white and jewish voters - together with a liberal senator, who is open to a different approach when it comes to domestic and foreign policy. And why not try the Liberal approach after all? We have already seen what the ultra right wing neo nationalist administration can do under the pretenses of national security... Lets give Liberals a shot.
There are other choices besides Mike Bloomberg of course, however, that's a topic for an entirely new discussion tomorrow. Look for more speculation on the VP slot in Friday's blog.
